Hailing from the Herefordshire area Paul first raced competitively in 2007, joining Buxton at the beginning of August after impressing at Academy League level with both Swindon & Birmingham. He made his Conference league debut, ironically, at Plymouth a few days later; going on to race a further 11 times for the Derbyshire outfit that season.
Riding bikes has always been in Pauls blood from an early age as he started out on the Junior grasstrack scene where the influence of his dad shone through as he himself had rode grasstrack all over Europe in the 500cc Solo division.
In the winter of 2007/08 Paul was signed by Plymouth chairman Mike Bowden for the coming season, a year in which the youngster made huge strides regularly scoring high from the reserve berth. After only missing 1 of the 26 fixtures that season, Paul totaled over 200 points finishing 6th in the clubs averages chart with 7.16. Also finishing the season with winners medals for both the Conference Trophy & KOC. Paul was also honoured to receive an award at the Speedway Riders Association dinner for finishing top points scorer in the National League.

Paul reached the GB U21 final for the first time that season and as a result of that performance was invited to ride in the Qualifying round of the World U21 Championships in Slovenia. As well as being a major part of the Devils Paul also made his international debut riding twice for the GB U21 side.
Paul was rider of the year in 2009 for the Plymouth Devils and had a solid year finishing on 504 points. Paul started 2010 as number 3 for Plymouth and soon progress and got his average up to 8.83. In the U21 qualifier he finished 2nd, and in the U21 British Final at Arena Essex Paul finished 8th, putting on a good display despite blowing his best engine in his first race!
He was soon spotted by a premier league promoter and was signed by Rye House and left Plymouth to move up a league, Paul also joined the Isle of Wight and was chosen to ride in the number 1 slot. Paul progressed well with both teams until his season was cut short with a fall at Newport that resulted in him missing the rest of the season with a broken collarbone.
Paul impressed the Islanders management enough in 2010 for them to enter into the transfer market and purchase his contract from Plymouth after protracted negatiations and lines up at number 1 again in 2011 for the Islanders!
